Sports Betting Glossary — 49 Terms Explained

Last updated: ·By BonusesInsider editorial team

Plain-English meanings of the words you will see on 1xBet. Start with match winner, a bet on several matches, and how to unlock the bonus.

1

1X2 (Match-winner)

Three-way market for the match outcome. 1 = home win, X = draw, 2 = away win. The most basic football market and the most-bet line by ticket count globally.

Full guide: Football betting markets

A

Accumulator (multi-match bet)

One bet on several matches at once — all must win for the bet to pay. Two picks is a double; from three up it is an accumulator. Odds multiply, so three matches at 1.50 each pay 3.375 instead of 1.50.

Example: Three football matches at 1.40 / 1.50 / 1.65 → combined odds 3.46 = $34.60 return on $10 stake.

Full guide: A bet on several matches at once — how the odds multiply

Asian Handicap (AH)

A handicap bet that eliminates the draw outcome. Half-goal lines (-0.5, +1.5) cannot push; quarter-goal lines (-0.25, -0.75) split the stake into two halves.

Example: Liverpool -1.5 means they need to win by 2+ goals for your bet to pay.

Aviator

Crash-style game where a multiplier rises from 1.00x and "flies away" at a random point. Players cash out before the crash to lock in winnings. On 1xBet it is a casino title (Spribe) found under Crash Games — not part of the operator’s own 1xGames section, which matters on the six markets that clear half the welcome there.

B

Banker bet

A selection considered near-certain in an accumulator. Used as the foundation around which other legs are built. The opposite is a "longshot" leg.

Bookmaker margin (Vig / Juice / Overround)

The implied house edge built into odds. A 1X2 market summing to 105% has a 5% margin. Lower margin = better value for the bettor.

Example: A two-way market at 1.95 / 1.95 has a margin of ~2.6% (one of the tightest available).

BTTS (Both Teams to Score)

A bet that both sides will score at least one goal in the match. Yes pays if both score; No pays if at least one team is shut out. Settled at full-time only (no extra time).

Example: England vs Spain at BTTS Yes 1.85 — pays if both teams score at least once.

Full guide: BTTS betting guide

C

Cash out

A feature that lets you settle a live bet before the event ends, for less than the full payout. The cash-out value moves with the in-play odds. Locks in profit or limits losses.

Example: A 3-leg accumulator with two legs settled and one live can cash out at ~70% of full payout.

Full guide: Cash out — how the offer is calculated

Closing line value (CLV)

The difference between the odds you took and the closing odds at kick-off. Positive CLV = you beat the market. Sharp bettors are measured by CLV, not by short-term wins/losses.

Combined odds

Multiplied odds across an accumulator. If 4 selections each have decimal odds of 1.5, combined odds are 1.5 × 1.5 × 1.5 × 1.5 = 5.06.

Correct score

A bet on the exact final score, not just the winner. Odds are long because a 1X2 pick covers many scorelines while this one covers a single result. Extra time and penalties are excluded — 90 minutes only.

Example: 2-1 to the home side priced at, say, 8.50 pays $85 on $10.

Full guide: Correct score betting guide

D

Decimal odds

Odds format showing total return per unit staked. Decimal 2.50 means $2.50 returned per $1 ($1.50 profit + $1 stake). Most international books use decimal; US uses moneyline; UK historically uses fractional.

Full guide: How to read betting odds

Double chance

One bet covering two of the three 1X2 outcomes: home or draw (1X), away or draw (X2), or either team to win (12). Roughly halves the risk of a straight match-winner pick and, with it, the odds.

Example: 1X on a home favourite drops the price from 1.75 to about 1.22.

Full guide: Double chance betting guide

Draw No Bet (DNB)

A 1X2 alternative where the draw is voided — your stake is refunded if the match ends in a draw. Lower odds than match-winner but eliminates one outcome from your risk.

Example: Manchester United DNB at 1.55 instead of match-winner at 1.85.

Full guide: Draw No Bet explained

E

Exchange (Betting exchange)

A platform where users bet against each other instead of against a bookmaker. Both back (bet for) and lay (bet against) are available. Betfair is the best-known example. 1xBet does not operate an exchange.

Expected value (EV)

The average expected return of a bet over many trials, accounting for probability and odds. Positive EV = profitable in the long run; negative EV = losing on average. EV = (probability × payout) − (1 − probability) × stake.

Full guide: Value betting — finding a positive edge

F

First goalscorer

A bet on which player scores the first goal of a match. By the general terms, void (stake refunded) if the player does not take part or comes on after the first goal, and lost if the player was substituted or sent off before it (Kenya’s general terms, read 4 September 2026). Most popular side market in football alongside top scorer.

Full guide: Goalscorer betting guide

Fractional odds

UK-style odds shown as a fraction (5/1, 11/4). 5/1 means $5 profit per $1 staked. Convert to decimal: (numerator/denominator) + 1.

Example: 7/4 = (7÷4) + 1 = 2.75 in decimal.

Full guide: Odds converter — decimal, fractional, American

G

Goal line (Over/Under 2.5 goals)

A bet on the total number of goals in a match. Over 2.5 needs 3+ goals; Under 2.5 needs 0, 1, or 2. Settled at full-time only.

Example: Over 2.5 at 1.85 returns $18.50 on $10 if three or more goals go in.

Full guide: Over/Under betting guide

Golden Boot

Award for the top scorer of a tournament (World Cup, Euros, Africa Cup of Nations). Pre-tournament odds favour strikers from finalist teams — match count matters more than per-game scoring rate.

Full guide: Goalscorer and top-scorer markets

H

Handicap

A virtual goal/point head-start applied to one team. -1 handicap means the team must win by 2+ goals; +1 means they can lose by 1 goal and still cover. European 3-way handicaps include the draw; Asian handicaps eliminate it.

Full guide: Handicap and Asian handicap lines

Hedging

Placing extra bets on the opposite outcome to lock in profit or limit losses no matter who wins. Common when most matches on a multi-match bet have already finished and one is still live.

Example: After 3 of 4 matches settle, bet the other side of the last match to lock a profit.

HT/FT (Half-time / Full-time)

A double bet on the leader at half-time and the winner at full-time. Nine combinations are possible, so a comeback line such as away/home pays far more than a straight match-winner pick.

Example: Draw at half-time and a home win at full-time pays around 4.50-5.50 on an evenly matched game.

Full guide: Half-time/full-time betting guide

I

ID check

Proof of who you are; the general rules let the operator hold a withdrawal until it is done. Send a government ID with a photo; proof of address and a selfie with the ID when asked. The general terms allow up to 72 hours from receipt of the documents. You can bet before this is done.

Full guide: How to verify a 1xBet account (ID check)

Implied probability

The probability that the odds suggest. Convert decimal odds to implied probability: 1 ÷ odds. Decimal 2.50 → 1/2.50 = 40% implied probability.

Example: France at 6.0 to win the World Cup = 16.7% implied probability.

Full guide: Convert odds into implied probability

In-play (Live betting)

Placing bets after a match has started, on rapidly-updating live odds. Lines move with the match; we have not timed the refresh. Cash-out on an open ticket is usually offered throughout the match.

L

Lay bet

A bet that an outcome will NOT happen. Available only on betting exchanges (Betfair, Smarkets). 1xBet does not offer lay markets — only back bets.

Live streaming

Free in-app or in-browser video streams of sporting events for logged-in users (whether a positive balance is required is not in the general terms we read; any condition would be printed on the live page after login, which we have not captured (the logged-out live page we dumped on 6 September 2026 shows the match list and no streaming note)). Which matches carry a stream is shown by the icon on the live board; we have not counted the leagues, and a stream runs behind the live feed the odds follow.

M

Moneyline

US-style odds expressed as +200 or -150. Negative moneyline = how much you stake to win $100 (-150 = stake $150 to win $100). Positive moneyline = how much you win on $100 stake (+200 = win $200 on $100).

Full guide: Odds formats compared

O

Outright (Futures)

A long-term bet on a tournament winner, top scorer, or final position. Settles at the end of the tournament. Higher odds than match markets but ties up your stake for weeks/months.

Example: Argentina to win the World Cup at 8.50 — pays 8.5x your stake if Argentina lifts the trophy.

Full guide: Outright betting guide

Over/Under

A bet on whether a stat (goals, corners, cards, points) will be over or under a stated line. The line can be a half-number (no push) or whole/quarter (push or split).

Full guide: Over/Under betting guide

P

Pre-match

Bets placed before kick-off. Lines are typically wider (more value) than in-play but lock in once the match starts.

Promo code

A short code you paste when you open a new account. VIP4YOU is the current 1xBet code. First deposit can be matched 130%, up to $130. That is a ceiling, not what everyone gets. Without the code the usual offer is 100%, up to $100. Some countries list a higher welcome — check after you sign up.

Full guide: 1xBet bonus code VIP4YOU — full guide

Push (Tied bet)

A bet that ends in a tie with the line — stake is refunded. Only happens with whole-number handicap or total lines (e.g. "Over 2.0" with exactly 2 goals scored).

Q

Qualifying odds

The minimum price for a match to count toward unlocking the bonus. On the international offer at least 3 matches on each bet must be 1.40 or higher; India’s terms set 2.00 on single bets instead, and Tanzania’s 2.10. Cheaper prices do not count.

Full guide: Bonus account rules and qualifying odds

R

ROI (Return on Investment)

A profitability metric — total profit divided by total stakes, expressed as %. Professional sports bettors aim for 2-5% ROI long-term. Anything above 8% over thousands of bets is exceptional.

Full guide: Bankroll management and ROI

S

Sharp bettor (Sharp / Wiseguy)

A professional bettor who beats the market consistently. Identified by closing line value (CLV), not by short-term win rate. Books restrict accounts that show sharp characteristics.

Singles (Single-match bet)

A bet on one match only. Safer than a multi-match bet, but smaller payout. On the international offer a single-match bet does not count toward unlocking the welcome; India is the reverse — its terms clear the bonus on three winning singles at 2.00.

Spread (US)

US-style handicap. The favourite "gives" points to the underdog. -7.5 favourite means they must win by 8+; +7.5 underdog means they can lose by 7 and still cover.

Full guide: Handicap betting explained

Steam move

A sudden, rapid line movement triggered by sharp money. Books shift odds quickly when a perceived professional bettor stakes heavily. Following steam moves is one of the simplest sharp strategies.

System bet

A combination bet covering multiple sub-accumulators from a pool of selections. A "2/3 system" places 3 separate doubles from 3 picks — at least 2 must win for any payout. Hedges against single-leg failures.

Full guide: System bets — combinations explained

T

Top scorer

A bet on the leading goalscorer of a match, tournament, or season. Pre-tournament Golden Boot odds typically favour strikers from teams expected to advance deep — match count is the dominant factor.

Full guide: Top-scorer and goalscorer markets

Treble (three-match bet)

One bet on three matches. All three must win. Combined odds are the product of all three. This is the ticket shape the international offer asks for; India clears on singles and six African markets send half the bonus into 1xGames.

Full guide: Accumulator betting guide

U

Unlock (how much you must bet)

You cannot withdraw the bonus at once. On the international offer you place bets adding up to 5 times the bonus, on 3 or more matches at 1.40 or higher, within 30 days. Of the sixteen country sites whose terms we have read, ten publish a different target.

Example: $130 bonus × 5 = $650 in qualifying bets before you can cash out that bonus.

Full guide: Tool that shows how much you must bet

UPI (Unified Payments Interface)

India's mobile-first instant payment system. Used for 1xBet deposits via PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM. The UPI Fast tile prints “No fees, 5 to 15 minutes”; the UPI tile starts at ₹350.

Full guide: UPI deposit guide

V

Value bet

A bet where you judge the true probability of winning to be higher than the implied probability of the odds. Sharp bettors only place value bets; backing a price below your own estimate is paying the book extra.

Example: You estimate 50% probability for an outcome priced at 2.50 (40% implied) → +25% expected value.

Full guide: Value betting explained

Volatility

The variability of a betting strategy's short-term returns. High-volatility plays (longshot accumulators) win less often but bigger. Low-volatility plays (heavy favourites) win often but small.

W

Welcome bonus

Money added on your first deposit if you are new. Without a code the usual offer is 100%, up to $100. With promo code VIP4YOU the listed welcome is 130%, up to $130. That is a ceiling. Some countries list a higher welcome. One-time per person, household and IP.

Glossary FAQ

Which betting terms should a beginner learn first?

Start with the four that appear on almost every bet slip: 1X2 (match-winner), Over/Under (totals), Accumulator (multi-leg bet), and Decimal odds (how returns are shown). Once those are second nature, add Handicap, BTTS and Cash out. Everything else builds on these six.

How do I convert decimal odds into a win probability?

Divide 1 by the decimal odds. Odds of 2.50 give 1 ÷ 2.50 = 0.40, i.e. a 40% implied probability. Odds of 1.50 give 1 ÷ 1.50 = 0.67, or 67%. If you think the real chance is higher than the implied figure, the bet has value.

What is the difference between an accumulator and a system bet?

An accumulator needs every leg to win — one loss and the whole bet is dead. A system bet splits your selections into smaller combinations (for example three doubles from three picks), so you can still get a partial payout if one leg loses. Systems are safer but cost more in total stake.

Which terms matter most for clearing the 1xBet welcome bonus?

Three, on the international offer. You place bets adding up to 5 times the bonus. Each bet must cover 3 or more matches. At least three of the matches on each bet must be priced 1.40 or higher. That is how you unlock the welcome after code VIP4YOU.

Are these terms the same at every bookmaker?

The core meanings are the same everywhere — a multi-match bet, a handicap or implied probability. What changes is how much you must bet to unlock a bonus, the minimum price, and which markets count. Always read that bookmaker’s terms.
